Terminal
The Terminal page opens an interactive shell on the selected node. It is useful for the small pieces of host administration that are best handled directly: inspecting a command result, checking a service, or applying an operational change while keeping the node context in view.
Commands run on the host, with the permissions of the account you sign in to Sylve with. Treat it like any other privileged shell: changes take effect immediately.
The walkthrough clears the visible terminal buffer, runs fastfetch in the fresh shell, then opens the display settings. Neither toolbar action changes the host configuration.
Working with a session
Section titled “Working with a session”The terminal fits itself to the available panel size and keeps the host PTY in sync when you resize the browser or the surrounding panels. It keeps up to 10,000 lines of scrollback, so recent output remains available while you work.
Use the controls in the toolbar to manage the current session:

| Clear | Clears the visible terminal buffer. It does not run clear on the host or alter the shell history. |
| Settings | Opens the local display settings for font size, background colour, and foreground colour. |
The settings are saved in your browser, so they remain in effect the next time you open the host terminal on that device.
Reading and editing comfortably
Section titled “Reading and editing comfortably”Use Ctrl++ and Ctrl+- to change the terminal font size quickly. On macOS, use ⌘ in place of Ctrl. The same preference is available from Settings, where the size is limited to a readable range of 8 to 24 px.
The terminal uses a standard xterm-256color environment, so usual FreeBSD command-line applications and colour output behave as they would in a normal terminal.
Access and session behaviour
Section titled “Access and session behaviour”Sylve authenticates the terminal connection using your active Sylve session. When the Sylve account is root, the host opens its root login shell. Other accounts receive a normal FreeBSD login prompt and cannot sign in directly as root; sign in as a regular host user, then use su - when you are authorised to become root.
Closing the browser tab or navigating away detaches the terminal. When the final viewer disconnects, Sylve closes the host PTY and its associated login process. Reopen Terminal whenever you need a new session.
